So now, if one of you could go ahead and find me a cute studio in Columbia, Missouri, I would sure appreciate it.

Oh yeah, I don't think I mentioned this, but hey Livejournal Land, I'm definitely moving to Missouri in the fall for that Journalism program. Mizzou was my first choice of schools, and last week I was offered an assistantship that totally sealed the deal. Free tuition + top choice school + interesting and valuable work experience = almost as big a win as that sandwich I just finished eating... ALMOST.

Anyway, I'm excited. Go Tigers. However, I've resigned myself to never being able to find a decent slice for the next two years, and I'm beginning to make my peace with it. I sense more than one trip to DiFara in the coming months.

EDIT: Anyone who lives on the west coast owes it to him or herself to attend this show, because it contains all of the funny.

Good for you!!

I wouldn't think you'd have much trouble finding a decent place to live. The rents in the middle of the country are pretty reasonable.

Hey thanks!

And yes... the rent is uber cheap, the problem is going to be finding a place sight-unseen. A little overwhelming, that, but I'm only on my first day of looking.

Hooray! You're still a few hours from Kansas City, but I'll overlook that. ;)

Several of my coworkers went to Mizzou, and I pinged the one closest to me to get her thoughts on the housing (and pizza) situation. Here's what she had to say:

"She will love Columbia!!! I lived several places near campus, none of which I would really recommend. A lot of people stay in a complex called College Park, which is driving distance from campus. They also rent houses that are just east of campus (east of College Blvd). I stayed in one complex called Whitegate that was close enough for a long walk, but it also had a shuttle bus. There are three colleges in Columbia (Mizzou, Columbia College, Stephens College) all right next to each other so there is a ton of student housing available.

Shakespeare’s is the BEST pizza I’ve ever had! It’s also a fun place to hang out right downtown. If she likes to do stuff outdoors, there is the MKT trail that turns into the Katy trail and runs by the river. There is also a rock formation called the Pinnacles that is pretty cool to climb/hike around. Tell her she made a great choice!"

Hope this helps! :)

Funny - I had already scoped Shakespeare's as the potential bright spot on the pizza spectrum - now looking forward to trying it. Thanks for the help - very cool to hear from someone who's lived there. Would be curious on the names of the places she lived that she wouldn't recommend... if you think of it, could you have her shoot me an email? angela dot hamilton at gmail.

Sure, you bet. Have forwarded your info over to her. I know she'll be traveling the rest of this week for work, so no promises on a quick reply from her, but surely she'll email when she has time to do so. :) Her name is Sarah, should you receive an email from a stranger and wonder who she is, heh.

YES PLEASE!!! I have a general idea of what area I want to be in, but I'm a little lost about actual buildings - there are a lot of them and without seeing them myself, it's hard to know.

Mushy grassy, sir. I've been freaking out a bit tonight but some gewurztraminer I find helps, along with rabbits, artichokes, and the new Indigo Girls album. God, I'm predictable. :)

That's exciting! Congratulations!

One word of warning, though... their men's basketball coach just abandoned them to take a job at Kentucky. I hope that doesn't affect your decision to attend. :)
